Under Grotto Falls
Contemporary Oregon Landscape Painting
Acrylic on wood panel
16″ x 16″
No framing required, 7/8 inch deep panel.
In the Umpqua National Forest is a short trail that passes through a beautiful forest before you emerge at a large grotto. The water spills from 100 feet above, and then runs down a rocky canyon. The trail passes behind the falls into a large natural cavern. This painting is the view of standing in that cavern, looking up to where the water spills over. The tops of the surrounding trees are in you view, as are the roots of the trees above your head. The waterfall comes over the edge, lightly, as the winter rains don’t come for another week. The bright fall foliage still shows deep in the evergreen forest.
Even though there is a reminder of the season, you feel that time has forgotten this place. There is a quiet and calming energy here. Standing in the grotto, looking out you truly feel as you are part of this land.
This painting has been varnished, including the wood sides of the cradle. This will help keep the wood looking clean. The wood sides are not painted or stained. The varnish has a matte-finish so there will be little glare even if hung in a bright spot, or under direct light. The painting is lightweight and is easily hung up on even the smallest nail or screw.
