We are starting our garden soon. We’ve been poring over seed catalogs. Dreaming of a better tomorrow is always so much fun. It appears that we have good dirt in the back yard and I’ll be posting more as this develops.
Now, what does this have to do with art?
At the moment, not a lot. However, I hope to grow lots of yummy food and beautiful flowers. I plan to do some paintings out in the garden (pretending I’m Monet or Van Gogh). We hope our daughters learn how to grow their own food, see the connection to the land and how fantastically interesting nature can be. We hope our journey will be beautiful and tasty.
I believe that this is a good way to “be the change I want to see in the world”. A line that is bantered about the internet often, but when I actually sat down to think of the change I’d want to see, this was part of it. Starting at home, spending quality time with the kids, giving them a love of gardening and plants, and understanding of where food comes from, eating fresher and healthier; all these things I want in my daily life. This is another way for me to instill a love of this awesome planet into my wonderful daughters. We protect what we love.
