Old Growth Redwoods
Acrylic on Paper
16″ x 12″
These beautiful old growth trees live in Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park in California. Nearly to the Oregon border, just a bit inland from the Pacific Ocean, and along the banks of the Smith River is Stout Grove. A must-see in this life! One of my most favorite places of all time. These ancient trees live thousands of years when left to their own plans. Most fires burn their bark, but cannot reach the inside of the tree.
Painting the bark on this tree was so much fun. I kept layering up the gentle hues of paints. For this work I used the following colors to mix on my palette: Phthalo Green (Blue Shade) Phthalo Blue (Green Shade) Alizarin Crimson Hue Cadmium Yellow Medium Titanium White Dioxazine Purple
