In Southern Oregon, Brookings is a popular vacation spot, and is a mere 6 miles from the California border. Since Pete Miller had been hiking the Oregon Coast Trail from North to South, Brookings meant that he was almost finished. Even though it is a popular beach town, part of the joy of Oregon is that you can find solitude, and a place for contemplation at many of your stops along the coast.
