Half-Charred Ponderosa Bark – Slater Fire

At the edge of the Slater Fire wildfire, stands a tall ponderosa pine. One side is normal, and yet, around the side of the tree the bark is burnt, where the winds drove the fire to the tree, yet was not able to burn it.

I have loved the puzzle piece nature of the ponderosa pine bark for years. The values added to the texture of the bark from the fire inspired this painting.
